Shipping a vehicle
A vehicle may travel under ToR if owned and used abroad for at least six months. It is declared to HMRC, then registered with the DVLA, which requires an approval certificate confirming UK construction and emissions standards. Left-hand drive cars are legal to register but the headlights must be adjusted for driving on the left. A vehicle brought in without ToR approval attracts duty and VAT on its value.
Taking pets
Cats and dogs enter the UK with a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, a valid rabies vaccination and an animal health certificate from an official vet. Dogs additionally need tapeworm treatment given by a vet between one and five days before arrival. Animals must travel with an approved transport company on an authorised route; arriving outside those routes can mean quarantine at your cost.

What affects the price
Volume is the main driver, then whether you take shared container space or a full container — the crossover usually sits around fifteen cubic metres. Destination charges at Felixstowe and Southampton are billed separately from the ocean freight and vary more than people expect. Delivery to an address a full-size vehicle cannot reach needs a smaller shuttle, and that is quoted at survey rather than added afterwards.

How long does a ToR1 application take?
Commonly two to three weeks, occasionally longer at busy periods. Because the reference is quoted on the customs entry, a container that arrives without it is held while port storage accrues daily. Apply as soon as the sailing is booked.
Can I bring alcohol in my shipment to the UK?
